OH Newness, how I love theeeeee,  you feel so good….But you also make me feel stretched, and unfamiliar at times and sometimes that can feel scary. Old, you feel so comfortable and familiar and sometimes also not so good…but you are familiar ARGH. Of course there’s all this grey area in between too.

We are constantly releasing old and what’s not serving us and embracing new. It’s this constant flow that sometimes we wish wasn’t happening. We desire consistency and solid ground, and equilibrium as humans, especially our minds. In essence though we are always in motion and so is our lives. Our bodies are always carrying out many brilliant processes like breathing, circulating, proliferating, and many other things. Plants are always growing or dying off and going back to the earth.  We eat a meal, feel full, then need to eat again a few hours later.  This is just the nature of FLOW in our daily lives.  Even if we try and grip real hard to sameness, we are nudged to flow whether we like it or not (hello bladder).

One of the things about all of this is we can actually get used to the flow of this ever evolving process and actually get excited about it.  It doesn’t have to feel uneasy or like you are standing on shaky ground all the time. It can actually feel good.  So if you get really uneasy with transitions, I totally get it! I understand, sympathize and feel you on that!

There is one thing we can hold onto, and that is the connection with ourselves our spirit/consciousness/presence/essence etc etc. The part of us that is always there, always listening, always loving and always available even when we don’t think it is.

Yeah that is the interesting part of this journey, the whole spiritual paradox (that is not actually a paradox).  The more grounded into ourselves we are, the more we can embrace flow. The more we can release the old and embrace the new as this constant unfolding.

This time of the year, early September, feels like a transition. The energy is changing. The weather, the summer chill vibe is moving into more moving energy, kids going back to school and holiday paraphernalia in the stores (please keep the red and green stuff away for at least another month, come on, I love it but, no).

You might feel a very natural need to purge, release and let go of physical things that no longer serve, or beliefs inside of yourself that are no longer serving you.  Maybe you are feeling new shifts and new ideas inside.  This is totally awesome and wonderful to embrace!

3 Tips to help you Release the old and Embrace the New

1-Thank the Old for being there when you needed it and send it off on its own journey. This can go for physical items you are giving away or throwing away (Thanks pants for being of use to me, now go serve someone else). It can also be used with limiting beliefs that you are letting go of.  Yes we can thank limiting beliefs for being there, because we did the best we could in the moment. We don’t know what we don’t know.  So in essence it was serving us and now it is not. You can thank it and let it go.

You might like the ho’oponopono phrase “ I forgive you, I am sorry, I love you” This releases you, the belief, the whole thing so you can move on.  This is great if you are feeling guilt and shame over it and you need to release yourself from holding onto a limiting belief that has been causing you pain.  Let’s take an example. What if you believe you don’t deserve love? What if it’s something that has surfaced for you many times over and you have dealt with it, healed it etc and now it’s coming up again to be healed? Well along with feeling it, and releasing it, you can forgive it and forgive yourself for believing it.

2- Vision the New….What NEWNESS is percolating from inside? This is the time when some people might say…Um no I don’t feel anything new….You are most likely wrong. HA!  I bet in your subtle awareness there is an exciting new idea or dream that has been nudging you. It’s ok to play with the vision and how it would look and feel. This is the fun part. Pretend, Play and imagine.

Aristotle said, “Nature abhors a vacuum.”  What that means, is as we release the old, we can then bring in the new. There is never a void in nature even if we can’t see it, air is all around with microscopic particles. Everything is energy also, so as we release that old belief we can fill that space with new beliefs and insights.  We don’t have to take any action right away, but bring in the new belief, the light, the excitement of the space in your closet for new clothing that is in line with who you are right now.

3-Take Inspired Action– When you feel the inspiration take it! Don’t force it, take it when the idea comes. Go to the store for new clothing, when it feels super fun.  Decide to meet new people who are in line with who you are now (being open to love of all kinds) and look into communities and meetups that serve that purpose.  Don’t force it or make it heavy. Do it when inspired!
